OS Customization
Well it is just a wish really. I have LG VX6100 from Verizon Wireless. I know there is customization for PDA's, but is there any for Cell Phones?
I'd love to have my phone coordinate with my Desktop(running Airlock stuff right now). I wonder if it would be a possibility in the not too distant future?
Well, anyway, just deamin'

All you can do to cellphones is Wallpapers and sounds. Beyond that, you can run apps like games, calculator, etc. Customizing the cellphone isn't there yet. Maybe if you had a hybrid Cell/PDA. But I'm not even sure there either.

Cell phone have an OS, so they are hackable. The hard part is getting into it. Probably requires special hardware.

You can get themes for some of the Sony Ericsson phones. I have the Aluminium Alloy theme on my T630
I believe there is a section over at DA for that.

All you need is the cable for that particular phone and some downloadable software (It's free look for QPST2_7 or Bit something or other) once you have that you can hack the eri file and remove the Verizon banner and do all sorts of fun things (if you don't end up frying your phone)
Read around on here ===> http://cellphoneforums.net/f90
(me is more into ppc things than regular phones but I've fixed a few phones up for some friends)

btw they say you can't animate the inside screen image on some of the LG's only the outside but I've done it so there is really no limit when you are determined. hehe

I was trying to find my old links and found this one http://bitpim.sourceforge.net/#download
this program lets you access system files and mess around there but it's for the prior versions of LG phones I have not fooled around w/ the newer phones for a while (get a ppc phone) hehe

And here's the other program http://www.howardforums.com/archive/topic/471069-1.html
just be careful what you do and don't fry your phone or if you have a warranty and you remove your Verizon banner and things of that nature (and they notice) you may ruin your warranty rights (so think before you play, me plays before I think but I tell other ppl not to)

Now, the issue I have is, if you hack the phone system files, doesn't that may effect security?

Depends are what exactly you are hacking taking off the companies irritating banners and replacing the text and or images w/ something you want on your phone rather then theirs won't harm security but will piss them off waranty wise when you go and complain when "something else" happens to go wrong down the line it simply gives them an excuse to blame the problem on you messing w/ things they want their way and not yours etc.

If you alter the eri file (or any other files you alter for that matter) you just need to keep a copy of the original one so if you do need to go into the shop w/ the phone you can change things back before you go, if you forget to keep a copy of the original files you're bound to have problems. (some you can't repair)

You can get themes for Symbion OS phones. I have downloaded tons for my Nokia 6600 that change everything; tones, wallpaper, icons, most if not all of the GUI. Deviantart have a decent cell section but it's not organised enough and themes for all models are just lumped in together which makes browsing it tedious.
